Dramatherapy for children
For young children
Children process their emotions by playing out different scenarios from their past and develop a better understanding of themselves by trying out different responses and futures. In dramatherapy, we use stories and role play to discover different parts of ourselves, and we use art and music to bring them to life. Through this process, children discover more about themselves and their experience, while the counsellor helps them consider different outcomes and connections to develop healthy responses to adverse experiences and difficult emotions.
For pre-teens & teenagers
Dramatherapy can help pre-teens and teenagers connect with their bodies at a time when they are going through many physical changes, questions about their identity and belonging, and help them learn how to cope with stress. Working with pre-teens and teenagers creatively can help form healthy cognitive pathways and coping mechanisms to address their often tumultuous emotional experiences. This can help cultivate emotional literacy, develop confidence, and cultivate resilience, giving them tools they can use for the rest of their lives.
